ABE is excited to participate again in the school supplies drive organized by the United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County, supporting local students to ensure they're prepared to enter the classroom in August. The drive runs through July 22, 2021. All donated supplies are distributed to elementary and middle-grade students through distribution partners working directly with youth throughout Buncombe County.
This year ABE is participating by hosting a virtual drive, with employees from 4 teams (Admin, Sales & Marketing, Service & Inventory and AIS IT Support) making donations for elementary students. Anyone can donate to our team efforts, even people outside of ABE, such as friends and family members!
Each elementary school backpack will be filled with supplies and costs just $24.30. Says Kevin Jackson, President and CEO, “At ABE we are committed to helping our community continue to grow and be stronger. An essential part of this is setting the groundwork for success in the schoolroom, starting with the right supplies. We hope to contribute to making a difference in the next generation of kids by helping them obtain everything they need as they head back to school. I’m proud of our employees for stepping up to donate, and happy to donate on the part of ABE as well.”
"While this drive is managed by United Way, it is the overwhelming community support that is truly making a difference in the lives of students and ensuring all students have what they need to become academically successful at the start of a new school year," asserts Erika Goffen, Volunteer Engagement Manager of the United Way program in Asheville.
Partnering with the United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County’s backpack drive pushes our community in a positive direction. Adds Jackson, "We'd love to see some participation from our friends in the community. You can even donate on behalf of your favorite team at ABE by adding the team name in the Comments section when you donate."
