This week we highlight our non-profit client BlueWest Opportunities, an amazing local organization providing residential services to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, with the goal of developing life skills and providing community integration.
Miriam Stuart, Chief Financial Officer at BlueWest, confirms that COVID has created unique challenges for BlueWest as a congregate living facility, stating “However, our Direct Care Staff and Nursing Department stepped up to the plate and have provided excellent care for our residents in this challenging time. We are proud to report that we have remained COVID-free at all our sites due to our awesome staff. We are also grateful for the support we have received from the state of North Carolina and Buncombe County.”
BlueWest Opportunities has roots extending back to the late 1980s when two separate organizations—Blue Ridge Area Foundation, Inc. and Western North Carolina Group Home for Autistic Persons, Inc—were meeting the needs of persons with Developmental Disabilities and Autism in Western North Carolina, offering people being served in State Developmental Centers an opportunity to move into their communities and experience structured living and services in smaller and more individualized settings. Combining these two organizations led to the launch of BlueWest Opportunities in July 2019.
Through their vocational service division, BlueWest provides employment offerings to members of their community.
By meeting the needs of those they serve with compassion, accountability, respect and empowerment and providing services that enrich their quality of life, BlueWest creates meaningful experiences focused on the whole person. We applaud their dedication!
